March 30, 2009

The day started out great, what with the anxiousness of trying to load the old Olympus program in the new operating system Vista. NOT.
I tried to get the photos off of the camera at Walmart, where they said, "sorry you're out of luck"...So, I took the camera to Murphy's where they were able to sell me a card, transfer the data to the card and then make me a CD! Hooray for professional photo stores. Now, I could send the photos on line to the AAEA for the Rolex Three Day Event show. So, I'm back up to speed with my dinky camera, at least getting images I can send to art shows. Hurray!
I sent this to AAEA today.

The shower went well, the bride to be is just a doll, we all had a great time. The day went by in a blur, way too fast. I got a short ride in on Bear, but had to leave early so I could get 40 miles to the shower.
This is another of Dr. Remmele's dalmations, the original Rosie. She stayed in his office on this couch when he was at work. I did several portraits for him through the years, of his champion home bred dogs. He was always a delight to work with. This is also the mother of my Rosie, who looked just like her mother.

Basketball blues

Today started out slow, Husband has been watching the basketball games to the wee hours, so I can't get enough sleep. Today has been spent getting stuff ready for friend's wedding shower, and riding "Bear". He was fantastic today, light on the bit, halting square, and generally being a real angel. We hacked out down the farm road and back. Had a great dinner at Bonefish Grill. Also got some linen washed and cut up, ready to glue to the boards.
This is a portrait of one of Dr. Remmele's champion dalmations, a daughter of "Rosie". I had another of his Rosie daughters for years, she was a great dog, but never learned to sit like this one.

Mare & Foal study

I am going to post images of studies and paintings completed previously, while I am wait for a new camera (to replace the one stolen) and get my new panels ready. This is of a friends mare and foal, which she bought, and I did a full size painting later, which didn't have the freshness of the smaller study.
I just took a class today on how to study the bible, it looks really good, makes you use both sides of your brain. I think I need to use this, it may help me to get more organized in every aspect of life. While it may be hard, it looks like a lot of fun, too. I can't wait to start!

Cheap Linen

A really good thing is finding some nice 100% linen to paint on at Goodwill. An extra large size ladies dress and shirt cover! It happens to be linen colored, but that doesn't matter, I buy linen in all colors of clothes like shirts and skirts, once you get it gessoed, it's all white anyway. $2.50 for several small panels is a great deal. It helps to get a medium to fine weave.Great for doing plein aire work. Now I just need to get it mounted and primed so I get some panels ready for this spring and summer. So, first clean out a large space to work.....hmmm.
Today I got more good news! My big gelding in training who was very naughty last week, has had a complete turnaround this week. The secret was cutting his dose of grain. Even with all of the work he's been doing, he was putting on weight and acting up. I lunged him one day at a "Red Mile" pace...he could have won a race at his trot and wouldn't settle down. I even saw a race horse "eye" on him. That did it! The proper amount of feed did the trick. Today he hacked out and did great. I'm pretty relieved about that.

First day

It's always hard for me to start something new and keep up with it, but here I go, into the unknown area of sending daily posts of my life work. I hope to stay on track. I also hope to be able to post new work on this format. Maybe I should wait until I get a new camera to replace the one just lifted from my car this week, maybe I can use the old one with the three second wait.
